Home Care Aide Skills Competency Assessment Checklist

The skills checklist is designed to evaluate the performance of 17 essential skills, such as taking body temperature, giving a bed bath and assisting with mobility.  Proper use of the checklist ensures that each trainee observed is evaluated on identical criteria, giving the home care aide educator, home care aide supervisor or agency administrator confidence in the fairness and objectivity of the evaluation process as competency screening and/or employment screening tool.  A RN with at least two year's experience and at least one year in home care must observe home care aides completing the checklist tasks.  If conducted in one session, all 17 tasks could be completed in approximately two hours.  A skills checklist package includes ten checklists and summary sheets.
