A Model Curriculum and Teaching Guide for the Instruction of the Home Care Aide

This classic teaching guide was the first of its kind originally produced in 1978, revised in 1990 and reviewed in 2008. Today the guide remains as one of the most used resources for the instruction of home care aides. It is especially useful to agencies or institutions who are developing a training program for home care aides. Designed to be taught in 75 hours (60 hours of classroom and laboratory instruction and 15 hours of field practice), the model curriculum contains five sections: Orientation to Aide Services, Understanding and Working with Various Client Populations, Practical Knowledge and Skills in Home Management, Practical Knowledge and Skills in Personal Care, and The Practicum.

This publication was the first formal and comprehensive resource for homemaker/home care aide training programs. It was developed through funding by the Administration on Aging in 1979, the second edition in 1990.
As a classic text the publication is no longer in print. The references or resources listed are dated and most are no longer published. The National Association for Home Care & Hospice makes the publication available because home care aide training programs still find the information useful. |
